Info sessions on Western Lands Leases

The NSW Government will host a series of information sessions for existing leaseholders in the Western Division on the new Crown Lands Management Act 2016.

Member for Murray Austin Evans said the new Act will allow for greater flexibility in land management and encourage economic growth in the region.

“The new provisions offer a new opportunity for graziers to purchase their existing lease and include a streamlined process for the conversion of leasehold land to freehold,” Mr Evans said.

“This provides a fairer more consistent approach to the conversions of Crown land tenures to freehold.

“It is vital leaseholders, residents and business owners in the Western Division understand how these new provisions will work for them.”

Information sessions:

Coomealla Memorial Club, 27 February, 6.30pm

Balranald District Ex-Services Memorial Club, 28 February, 6.30pm

Hillston Community Centre, 7 March, 6.30pm

Minister for Lands and Forestry Paul Toole said the sessions will particularly benefit those leaseholders who are interested in converting their lease to freehold title.

“The NSW Government is committed to ensuring the best future for the Western Division, a vast region that covers more than 32 million hectares in the west of our state,” Mr Toole said.

“The Crown Land Management Act 2016 implements reforms identified through the comprehensive review of Crown land management and follows over four years of engagement with the community on the future of Crown land.

“Parts of the Act will come into force soon and some leaseholders in the Western Division will have the opportunity to voluntarily purchase their lease and convert their title to freehold,” Mr Toole said.

The Crown Lands Management Act 2016 will commence in coming months.
